Mo Guernon’s Profile

The author in Canale d’Agordo, Pope John Paul I’s birthplace
Mo Guernon is a retired educator, journalist, and freelance writer whose work has appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines. He taught middle and high school in the King Philip Regional School District and part-time at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts. For several summers he lectured at the Robert A. Taft Institute of Government at Rhode Island College. He also served as a Catholic school principal. Additionally, he was a consultant to the Rhode Island Department of education as well as to public, charter, and Catholic schools.
Guernon got hooked on reading when his mother bought him his first book as a child. In secondary school he read voraciously and started collecting books which became a lifelong passion. He is particularly fond of biography, history, religion, philosophy, and literary classics.
His research for Love Is a Journey involved extensive excursions to Italy where he combed the archives at the Pope’s museum and conducted extensive interviews with John Paul I’s personal secretaries, his nieces, acquaintances, and scholars.
Guernon revels in the company of his family and friends and enjoys traveling (especially in Europe), spending time at the beach, barbecuing, kayaking, and golf (though he’s still striving to break 100!)
He received a B.A. in History from the University of Rhode Island and his Ed.M. in Administration, Planning & Social Policy from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.
The author and his wife, Elizabeth Kelley, have three grown children and four young grandchildren.
